Learning to Wait on the Brahmaputra
The Brahmaputra is not a zoo enclosure. It is a working river — sediment, weather, traffic, and wild animals that appear when they choose. Guests who arrive hoping for a guaranteed surfacing often need a quieter lesson first: how to sit still on moving water.
Dolphin Rangers’ field days are built around that lesson. We brief distance, engine manners, and what a sighting actually looks like — a brief arc of a back, a blow, sometimes nothing at all. This essay is a field note, not a scientific paper, and it makes no claim about numbers, hotspots or success rates.
If you come for the mammal, stay for the river. The light changes. Kingfishers work the bank. The current writes a new map every season. That is the expedition.
